Quality Structures, Inc. Wins 2013 NFBA Heartland Chapter Building of the Year Award in the Suburban Buildings Category This building built on FootingPads is used to park the customer’s RV plus another vehicle. It has a tack room for his horses and a workshop, both lined in 2x6” tongue-in-groove planking. Above the tack room and workshop is a loft for storage. The building has a wrap-around lean-to with a steel ceiling for sitting outside and watching the horses in the pasture. It sits next to a restored 100-year old farm house. Post-frame construction provided an attractive vintage style structure that is both maintenance-free and practical. Time of construction was only 8 days at a cost of only $44 per sq. ft., so they were quickly and economically able to utilize their new, needed storage and recreational space. |

Bradford Buildings Wins 2013 NFBA Heartland Chapter Building of the Year Award in the Commercial Category This building was erected upon lightweight composite FootingPads and laminated columns. It features light stone walls, burnished slate roof trim and wainscot. It is used for a sales office for portable building and post-frame “pole buildings” as well as storage space. The building has a small but spacious design, using the latest in post frame construction systems which helps the owner to showcase and sell similar products. Post frame was cost effective, and easy to modify to suit the customer’s needs. The customer was very pleased with the overall usable space and the ease of finishing out the building interior compared to the conventional 2x4 stud frame buildings that he had many years of experience with. |

Craun Construction / Wick Buildings Wins 2013 NFBA Heartland Chapter Building of the Year Award in the Horse Barns Category Upstairs is a two-bedroom, two-bath primary residence. The ground floor is a horse barn. There is a double stairway that leads to the second floor residence, with a 5’ high mezzanine area for plumbing that the three boys (all under 10 years of age) call their “cave.” Tyvek and an R-38 under deck spray foam provide a fire and bug barrier. The livestock area features tongue and groove doors. Sturdi-Wall Plus wet-set brackets from Heartland Perma-Column were also used on the project. Post-frame allowed the builder to make different bay spacings requested by the customer, and allowed them to infill between 4-ply 2x8” columns with stud walls to achieve the monitor look she liked. The post-frame design provided exceptional flexibility, economy and ease of construction. The structure was erected at a cost of $47.54 per sq. ft. |

The building is used for equipment storage and as a workshop for a family farm. The building sports an eyebrow style porch that provides style and function, giving it a more modern look. Micro foil insulation allowed the building to obtain R-15 value rating at a much lower cost than similar insulating systems. The building features four polycarbonate skylights, insulated almond windows, insulated overhead doors, two cupolas, taupe walls, rustic red trim/wainscot/roof, FootingPad composite footings, and scissor trusses for increased headroom. Post-frame proved cost-effective and easy to modify to suit the customer’s needs. The 2400 sq. ft. building was erected at a cost per square foot of only $18.45. | ||
Quality Structures, Inc. Wins 2012 NFBA Heartland Chapter Building of the Year Award in the Residential Housing Category The structure serves as a secondary residence and equipment storage for the family. The home features a 12x32” continuous concrete footing with Sturdi-Wall drill-set column anchors and engineered trusses to provide a 30 ft. clearspan. The climate-controlled areas employed R-19 wall batts and R-38 ceiling batts with fewer breaks in the insulation than conventional construction for exceptional energy-efficiency. The home features brick wainscot and steel siding and roofing, and sheetrock for the interior finish. Unique accessories include a 4 ft. cupola with glass sides, flying gables, peak extensions, gable eyebrows and Y-brace columns on the porch. The design represents a classic T-barn style that includes a lofted residential area with full wrap-around porch. The post-frame method allowed for economy on the shop portion and an easier tie-in to the residence structure. The building was erected in 19 days at a cost per square foot of only $64. |

Better Built Structures Wins 2012 NFBA Heartland Chapter Building of the Year Award in the Agricultural Storage and/or Workshops Category The building is an RV and farm equipment storage building. The customer wanted additional height that a 3/12 pitch cathedral bottom cord truss would provide. The building featured Perma-Column steel-reinforced pre-cast concrete piers. The building was erected on 4 ft. of fill dirt, so deeper footings were attained via column extensions for the pre-cast concrete piers. The 64 ft. long building used wooden posts with 72 ft. wide clear-span steel trusses. Posts were placed 16 ft. on center. The building was erected in 21 days at a cost per square foot of only $16.93. This hybrid post-frame design provided exceptional clear-span and height clearance, economy and quick construction. |

Better Built Structures Wins 2012 NFBA Heartland Chapter Building of the Year Award in the Horse Barns Category The building is used for horse stalls, equipment storage and office space. The building features solid-sawn 5x5 in. treated wood posts 12 ft. on center set on concrete in Sturdi-Wall drill-set brackets. The building contains custom horse stalls and sports a cupola and skylights. Interior walls provided insulated rooms. The 60x60’ building was erected in 21 days at a cost per square foot of only $11.80. The post-frame design provided exceptional flexibility, economy and ease of construction. |

Fingerlakes Construction wins 2011 NFBA Building of the Year Contest in the Institutional Category Fingerlakes Construction won first place - Institutional category in the 2010 NFBA Building of the Year Category for the Cazenovia Area Volunteer Ambulance Corps. This Perma-Column Building houses ambulances and a medical treatment center.The judges selected this winner due, in part, to its unique features including Hardi Plank siding, cultured stone wainscot and columns, curbing and porching. The builder cited the flexibility and cost savings achieved by post-frame as key aspects for success. Kistler Buildings wins 2011 NFBA Building of the Year Contest in the Commercial - 5,000 to 10,000 square feet Category Applecross Country Club’s Pulte Applecross Club House needed an affordable rennovation that would last, so they made it a Perma-Column building. Post-frame was useful in enabling the easy remodel, which features a larger seating and dining area. |
